Flowers

I’m sure this subject will be just as riveting for you as it was for me. But I know how important it is to most, so I figured I should include it. Not going to lie, when I started talking flowers with the florist, I zoned out a few times. So I do not blame anyone in the least if they choose to skip today’s post. No wonder Michael said I could handle this part on my own. What a punk.

So, now that we’ve set the tone for this post, I’m mainly going to leave the rest to pictures and just tell you what I like about each of them.

If you remember, this is what my original inspiration was:

My intention is now to leave about half of the bud vases with candles, and fill the other half with flowers. In the center of the table with be a blue mason jar to create the “center” piece.

I like baby’s breath. I like the simplicity. I like the color. And I love the price. Unfortunately, they tend to stink for most people so we will try to limit them to the great outdoors.

And if they happen to carry indoors, we will leave them mainly in small quantities such as the bridesmaid’s bouquets and the groomsmen’s boutonnieres.

I want the centerpieces to be mostly white, but if light pinks, peaches, blues, or whatever filter in, I’m not opposed. I’m hoping the centerpieces are filled with peonies, hydrangeas, garden roses, mums, dahlias, and daisies. I know some of these are out of season, but I trust our florist in making good decisions, and finding good look alikes 

And then to fill the bud vases, I asked for more dimensional flowers such as billy balls, thistles, spider mums, fern fronds, whatever those little flowers are in the first picture that I boxed, and anything else she can find.

Haha, did your eyes glaze over too? I’m just glad I included pictures.

Evolution of Flowers

Let me state right now, once my Aunt reminded me that her friend does flowers, flowers did not cross my mind other then when they just happened to be in inspiration pictures I had collected. Honestly, flowers had not crossed my mind as a priority previous to her bringing it up either. In the back of my mind was the thought that yes, we would have flowers, but I really didn’t care that much about them. With that being said, I’ll introduce you to some of my recent obsessions.

The first flower to grace my computer screen and capture my undying attention was the epic peony:

They were what I wanted, and that was that. I had originally wanted peonies on the tables for centerpieces as well as in the bouquets, but sadly I’ve moved on, As time has gone by and our wedding has started to take on its own personality, I don’t think the romantic pinks and vintage peaches are really going to go. I’m hoping that we can still sneak a few white ones into the bouquets and/or centerpieces somewhere, but we’ll have to see.

Since then, I have moved on to succulents. I think they’re so unique, even though the wedding blogosphere says otherwise. I personally have never been to a wedding that included them, so I think they’re still pretty original in my neck of the woods. And they’ll go definitely go with everything.

Another must have that I’m anticipating is baby’s breath. Any time before being engaged, I would have called it a weed, but now I think there is something amazing about the simplicity of it in the bouquets. I just love it and think it would go great with an outdoor ceremony and really pop against the bridesmaids dresses.

I also like the baby’s breath pomander I found on Pinterest. I think a few of these hanging from the ceremony arches wouldn’t look to shabby.

Another favorite, has been flowers that are dimensional and have a non-traditional flower shape. I particularly love the billy balls and thistles.

Other then that, my fall back plan is wild flowers. Or rather, flowers that look like wild flowers. I think that the bold, bright colors would look great. I’ve never been a girl who had a favorite flower, instead preferring to look out my window at the fields of bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrushes, buttercups, daisy’s, sunflowers, and whatnot.

I know it goes against the whole “wedding color scheme” idea but as time goes on, I’m starting to gravitate away from having a solidified color palette, and more towards everything being white, with pops of color here and there. I’m hoping *fingers crossed* that there is plenty of color at our venue due to the landscaping and openness, and that there isn’t a drought this summer (or flood).

Did your wedding colors evolve? If so, what made you change your mind?

P.S. I think I saved most of the above pictures from Pinterest or Style Me Pretty. All of them were saved before I started blogging so not really sure where I found them. Sorry!

Finding My Label

The first couple months of being engaged, I felt overwhelmed with ideas for the wedding. Formal? Informal? Modern? Vintage? Vintage Chic? Rustic? Romantic? Whimsical (what the hell does that mean?)? And what if we didn’t choose the right one? How do we determine which one is right? And how do I answer the question of what each of the above labels actually meant, let alone looked like?

So I did what I do best, I googled…..

Steampunk? Not really a contender, but just thought I would throw it out there. I had never heard of this before and thought it would be pretty cool, but how do you get everyone to play along? I also felt like we missed the era by about 100 years or so, AND I didn’t want to feel like the Mad Hatter on my wedding day. Even though that hat is pretty cool.

Vintage? Too pastel for my taste. I’m more of an “in your face” kind of person when it comes to color.

Chic? Too edgy, but definitely getting closer. I liked the “shabbyness” of it all.

Rustic? Too country with the Wrangler pants.

A combination of my favorite elements of each? Perfect.

Vintage elements I fell in love with were milk glass bud vases and blue mason jars.

Chic elements that I knew had to be included were china plates, monogrammed table runners, and bridesmaid dresses with ruffles.

And last but not least were the rustic elements of burlap, boots, and Mason jar glasses.

I've been calling it "rustic chic". I love the combination of baby's breath, burlap, and lace!

Oh! And I want a chandelier. Not sure where or how yet, but it’s definitely in the back of my mind and on my To Do list.

I’m a little nervous about what it will look like in the end, but I’m trying to stay confidant that it will all come together. I think once we sit down with the flower vendor and hash out those details, I'll have a clearer picture in my head of what the final product will look like (I'll be sharing my flower inspiration soon, don’t worry!). I guess as long as it doesn't look like the wedding fairy threw up burlap and lime green everywhere, we'll be alright!

How do you feel about labels? Do you think mine is appropriate?
